5 Steps To A Happy And Healthy Kitten

Posted on

If you are going to be bringing home a new kitten, you'll find that the experience is an exciting one. The kitten will prove to be a lot of fun from the start, ready to chase yarn and jump after laser pointers. However, bringing that new kitten home won't be all fun and games; there are also some important steps you want to take to ensure that your new kitten is healthy and happy. You also want to make sure you take steps to prevent problems from arising. This article is going to help you to get all set up for that new little friend.

Set up a few litter boxes

Most people only put out one litter box for their new kitten, then they get irritated when they find those little piles throughout the house. A kitten will generally pick up on using a litter box right away, but they won't travel a long distance to get to it. Having litter boxes in each room the kitten will be spending the majority of their time in can help train them faster.

Have plenty of toys for the kitten to play with

You want to have plenty of toys for your kitten right away. The more toys you provide them with, the less likely it will be that they will get in to trouble around your home. Get them a good variety of toys so they are guaranteed to have a few favorites to pick from.

Put up anything they shouldn't get into

Kittens are very curious by nature. When you first bring your new kitten home, they will want to know what everything is. Put up anything that can hurt them or that you don't want to get damaged.

Give your kitten a breakaway collar with a bell

A collar with a bell on it will help you to find your kitten when it's running around the house. However, stay away from regular cat collars because a mischievous kitten can get them caught on something, and this can lead to the choking. Instead, get them a breakaway collar with a bell since this collar will come apart if a certain amount of pressure is put on it.

Take your kitten to the vet

Take your new kitten to see the vet as soon as possible. They will give the kitten an exam, their shots, and some de-wormer. It's important to get your new pal off to a good start by making sure they receive all of their shots.
